Pelvic physiotherapy for children

Potty training children

The pediatric pelvic physiotherapist mainly focuses on the toilet training process in children, she has followed additional training; incontinence in children. We are talking about different types of incontinence such as daytime urinary incontinence, nighttime urinary incontinence and faecal incontinence.

The child is central to the treatment. In addition, external influences are also taken into account. Consider, for example, the family or school. Often these also play a role in solving the problem. Finally, in the treatment we also look at anatomical factors that can influence the toilet training process. This may be done in consultation with a (paediatric) urologist and/or pediatrician.

Constipation in Children

Constipation in children is common. Often one finds out if the child is not toilet trained properly for defecation or when smudges are found in the underpants. Sometimes pain and procrastination can be the cause of constipation. It may also be the case that the ultimate culprit with urine loss turns out to be constipation.

The pediatric pelvic physiotherapist will map out with you and the child where the problem comes from and what the best way is to find a solution.

Pain complaints pelvic area children

Pain in the pelvic (bottom) area is also common in children. Sometimes there is a clear reason, but often the complaints are vague and are labeled as abdominal pain.

The pelvic physiotherapist has a lot of experience in investigating where the complaints come from. Problems are well identified and treatment is targeted. Problems arising from an imbalance in the gut are of course treated differently from problems arising from tension. If necessary, referrals can be made (via the GP) to other specialists.

Referral and Fee

You often already have a referral from a general practitioner or specialist. However, a reference is not necessary. You can also make an appointment on your own initiative.

The first 18 pediatric/children(!) pelvic physiotherapy treatments are reimbursed from the basic insurance. How many treatments you will be reimbursed afterwards depends on your supplementary insurance.

If you have complaints and you wonder whether the pelvic floor might play a role, you can of course always contact us.
